LUCIEN FREUD NEEDS TO READ FREUD
I've always liked the work of Lucien Freud. He is the grandson of the analyst and now maybe pushing 90. I especially liked the paintings he did of Leigh Bowery but this painting...who sits around like this with one breast on display. Or is she going to suckle the dog--bleech. The overall creamy tone of the painting is so nice and the plain face of the girl. But the pose? Nope-it ain't working for me.

The last time I was in NY was 1995. I wandered into a show of Florine Stettheimer's work at the Whitney. I'd never heard of her.
